Google Local Services Ads and PatchLead are closer than most comparisons admit: both charge per lead rather than per click, and Google states that a customer contacts one business they chose rather than several. The differences are that Google sends you an unscreened call or message from a customer who picked you off a list, while PatchLead answers the homeowner first, confirms the job and the postal code, and transfers a live call — and that Google runs nationally while PatchLead runs in one Toronto area.
Most pages comparing a pay-per-call service to Local Services Ads reach for the exclusivity argument. That argument does not apply here, because Google's own documentation says customers contact the business they selected. Pretending otherwise would be the easiest paragraph on this page and also the least true.
The differences that do exist are worth understanding, because they point in opposite directions depending on what you need.
Where the two actually differ
Local Services Ads put your profile in front of a homeowner who then chooses whom to contact, and you pay for that contact. The homeowner has not spoken to anyone before reaching you, so the screening, the job details and the location are all still yours to establish.
PatchLead advertises, answers the phone itself, confirms what has failed and where, and only then transfers the caller to a contractor. You join a conversation already in progress.

When Local Services Ads are the better choice
For most Canadian contractors reading this, today, they are — and the reason is simple availability.
- You work outside Etobicoke. PatchLead cannot send you anything; Google can.
- You want a channel you own and control the budget of directly.
- You are willing to complete Google's screening and want the badge that comes with it.
- You have someone who can answer and qualify inbound calls well.
When PatchLead makes sense alongside it
PatchLead is not a replacement for a channel with national reach. It is worth adding when the qualification and the timing are the part you want handled.
- You are on the tools and would rather take a call that is already qualified.
- You want the job type and postal code confirmed before your phone rings.
- You want per-day spend caps and job-type filters set by you, changed instantly.
- You are in the Etobicoke postal areas we currently run in.
What PatchLead charges
$60 to $150 per connected call in Canadian dollars, by trade and job type. A call becomes billable only after a minimum conversation length — 60 seconds for plumbing, 60–90 for heating and air conditioning, 120 for roofing — so short calls, wrong numbers and dropped transfers are free.
No setup fee, no subscription, no minimum spend. Calls are placed Monday to Saturday, 9am to 7pm, and not on Sundays. Coverage is Etobicoke, in west Toronto, for plumbing and heating and air conditioning.
Common questions
Are Google Local Services Ads leads exclusive?
Google's Help Centre states that you only hear from customers who have specifically selected your profile, so a lead is not broadcast to several businesses the way a shared-lead marketplace works. That makes it closer to PatchLead than to a shared-lead product on this point. Confirm the current wording with Google, since terms change.
Is PatchLead cheaper than Local Services Ads?
We do not publish a comparison of the two prices, because Google's cost per lead varies by trade, city and competition and we cannot state it accurately. PatchLead is $60 to $150 per connected call in Canadian dollars. The comparison worth running is cost per booked job on each channel, using your own close rates.
Should I use both?
Most contractors in our coverage area should. They fail differently: Local Services Ads give you reach and a channel you control, while PatchLead gives you calls that are already qualified and timed. Running both and comparing cost per booked job over a hundred leads each is a better decision process than choosing on principle.
Do I need Google screening to use PatchLead?
No. PatchLead has its own application, and contractors agree in writing to hold the licences Ontario requires. To be clear about what that is not: PatchLead holds no licence information and performs no credential checks, so it is not equivalent to a screening or badge programme and we do not present it as one.
What happens if I miss a PatchLead call?
Nothing is charged, and the call moves on to another contractor so the homeowner is still served. You can pause and resume from the portal or your phone, cap the number of transfers per day, and the platform skips you while you are already on another call or outside your calling hours.
